Trained in Helena, Montana, the First Special Service Force (FSSF) was an elite American-Canadian commando unit also known as the “Devil’s Brigade”. The FSSF fought at the Aleutian Islands and also in the mountains of Italy. Disbanded in December 1944, the unit was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal 68 years later. This book was published in 1982 and has several black-and-white photographs documenting the group’s varied missions.
