Sam Prestipino of Helena was born and raised in Johnston, PA and entered Army Aviation Flight School at Fort Wolters, TX as a Lieutenant. During his two combat tours in South Vietnam, Sam accumulated 922 combat flying hours. San Sam was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 25 Clusters including the V Device for heroism and the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, among others. Sam took these remarkable films while flying UH-1C (Huey) gunships with the 1st Cavalry in 1966-1967 and AH-1G COBRA gunships with the 101 Airborne Air Mobile Division in 1969-1970. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1984. Another Vietnam Vet who saw this amazing footage said “that’s just the way it was.”
